Food at Anker
Lofoten, and the rest of the coast along northern Norway, is one of the worlds best fishing arenas.
We are building on traditions several generations back, making food from the catch of the ocean and other local land based animals. In our restaurant "Kjøkkenet" - The Kitchen - we serve one of the best a la carte dinners available in Lofoten.
Lamb, cod and other types of seafood are well known specialities from Lofoten. Deeply rooted in our traditions and culture.
The Lofoten, before becoming a popular tourist retreat, is a very important fishing center. Especially for the cod (skrei in Norwegian), attracted by the rich food brought by the Gulf Stream. At the end of the spring, thousands of tons of cod are hung to dry on wooden racks.
The nature-given conditions for sheep farming in Lofoten are particular good. Here we have no predators disturbing the sheep while they are grazing.
It is our filosophy that our guests are to experience this food and the history surrounding it. Our idea is to recreate the old times, and we have chosen to focus on the cultural history that is built up from the society surrounding us.
Traditional food from northern Norway, based on local commodities and traditions from this area, is the key point of our menus.
